It follows allegations this week by Panorama  that Ms Formby tried to interfere with who was on the  disputes panel for Jackie Walker’s anti-Semitism case.

She was expelled from the party for misconduct earlier this year.  The BBC documentary claimed Ms Formby deleted her email about the panel as there were “too many eyes” on it. Mr Watson told her: “You have previously reassured me that all data relating to anti-Semitism would be preserved.”

Meanwhile Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn faces calls to sack his spin chief Seumas Milne over claims he meddled in the scandal too.

A Labour Friends of Israel spokeswoman told The Sun:  “If Mr Corbyn was serious about getting to grips with the crisis, he would sack Seumas and other staff who are complicit.”

Labour insisted no evidence had been destroyed and that it is committed to tacking anti-Semitism.
