Who is George Osborne’s wife Frances and why are they getting a divorce?
EX-CHANCELLOR George Osborne and his wife Frances announced they were divorcing after 21 years of marriage.
But who is the woman behind the editor of the Evening Standard newspaper?
The couple met at a friend's house over Sunday lunch, before marrying in April of 1998.
Who is Frances Osborne?
Frances, 50, is the daughter of former Conservative cabinet minister Lord Howell of Guildford.
She was educated at the independent Marlborough College and Oxford University before training as a barrister.
Now a successful writer, some of her books include The Bolter, a biography of her great-grandmother, the English aristocrat Idina Sackville.
She shares two teenage children with husband George, a 19-year-old son and a 17-year-old daughter.
The pair have said they will remain good friends but mutually decided they should separate.
Divorce rumours
Friends of the pair reported that while the couple had been living together, they had been “living separate lives” since 2017.
The Osbornes said in a statement on Monday July 1: "George and Frances Osborne have sadly decided to divorce after 21 years of marriage.
"This is a long thought-through and mutual decision. They remain good friends and jointly devoted to their wonderful children."
Political aspirations
The news of their divorce comes as Mr Osborne, now editor of the Evening Standard newspaper, is rumoured to have his eye on a return to high office.
Mr Osborne, 48, left government after the Brexit referendum and stood down as MP for Tatton in Cheshire in 2017.
However, he recently endorsed Boris Johnson to be the next Tory leader despite the two men previously falling out over Brexit.
Where is George Osborne now?
George Osborne recently took on the role of editor of the London Evening Standard newspaper.
He is also the chairman of the Northern Powerhouse Partnership and an adviser to Blackrock, the investment giant.
