BORIS Johnson's girlfriend's ex has lifted the lid on their "emotionally charged" and "passionate" relationship - days after police rushed to the Tory leader hopeful's home over a row.
Oliver Haste opened up about his old flame as news of the explosive argument broke, with concerned neighbours calling 999 after hearing shouting and screaming.
He of his own "tumultuous relationship" with 31-year-old Carrie Symonds, who now lives with Johnson in South London.
Mr Haiste said: "I found when times were good with Carrie they were great – they were fantastic.
"When times were bad they were awful. It was a highly passionate relationship. And I don't mean that in a salacious, physical sense. I mean in terms of emotional context – very emotionally charged.
"It's the most up and down relationship I have had.
"Any relationship with Carrie or friendship with Carrie is very intense and can often burn brightly. It's never boring.
"She often brings a lot of intensity to relationships, be they romantic or friendships. That passion can work the other way when she is not happy with you."
Mr Haste and Carrie met in 2007, while she was studying drama and history of art at Warwick University and he was starting to become interested in Tory politics.
He claims to have introduced her to minor figures in the Conservative Party, before her career in politics took off.
Eventually the romance ended in 2010, according to him in a "not particularly amicable" manner - with her friends insisting the pair were only together for six months.
Carrie and Johnson's relationship became public in September last year, after he split from his wife of 25 years, Marina Wheeler.
In the early hours of Friday morning she was allegedly heard shouting “get off me” and “get out of my flat” during a bust-up at their home.
One neighbour said they heard what appeared to be an angry confrontation and recorded it because they feared for Carrie’s safety.
Today we told how Carrie has said to pals she is too scared to return to her £750,000 flat after being subjected to what she believes to be a hate campaign.
A Boris camp insider said: “As far as Carrie is concerned this is a stitch-up. Both she and Boris are convinced that this was politically-motivated.
LEFT-WING CALL OUT?
Left-wing playwrights Eve Leigh, and Tom Penn were behind the police call out in Labour-held Camberwell, South London.
In a recording of the row taken by the pair, Johnson can allegedly be heard refusing to leave the flat and telling his girlfriend to “get off my f***ing laptop” before a loud crash is heard.
Carrie then reportedly told him he had ruined a sofa with red wine and added: “You just don’t care for anything because you’re spoilt. You have no care for money or anything.”
The neighbour said: “There was a smashing sound of what sounded like plates.
“There were a couple of very loud screams that I’m certain were Carrie and she was shouting to ‘get out’ a lot.
“She was saying ‘get out of my flat’ and he was saying no. And then there was silence after the screaming.”
Yesterday Johnson failed to address the dramatic reports, as he dodged questions from the host of a hustings between him and rival Jeremy Hunt.

A source in the camp of Tory leadership front-runner Boris said: “The local hatred to Boris and Carrie has been ramped up recently. That’s why they feel it’s a stitch-up.
“Carrie is now really frightened and cannot believe this has happened over such a minor matter.
“She and Boris will not be going back there as they are too worried about the hostility they faced."
