TOP US politicians have been given a secret briefing about UFOs, it has been revealed.

The Senators on the Intelligence Committee were given the briefing about a series of encounters between US Navy planes and unidentified aircraft, one of them has said.

A spokeswoman for Senator Mark Warner, the vice chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, confirmed the briefing took place.

“If naval pilots are running into unexplained interference in the air, that’s a safety concern Senator Warner believes we need to get to the bottom of,”

Donald Trump said he too has been briefed on UFOs but admitted he doesn't believe in them.

The Navy itself didn’t comment on the latest meeting but has in the past confirmed that it provides briefings for the Congressional members by Naval Intelligence officials as well as aviators.

Earlier this year, the Navy revealed there have been reported sightings of UFOs hovering above top-secret military bases and flying near aircraft.

The daily sightings came over the course of 2014 and 2015 and were reported to the Pentagon and Congress.

Briefing requests by Congress members have been on the increase since it was revealed  the Pentagon’s shadowy Aerospace Threat Identification Program (AATIP) still investigates UFO sightings,

How many alien and UFO sightings have there been?

The number of UFO sightings is currently flying at an all-time high

According to data cruncher and there are around 45,000 annual reported sightings in the US.

He also says there have been more than 100,000 recorded UFO sightings in the past 100-plus years.

The first recorded flyby occurred in Portland in 1905, where viewers reported seeing a “buzzing” sphere-shaped UFO that descended from the heavens.

Sightings have spiked dramatically over the past 30-plus years with mysterious lights taking over from saucers as the most popular description of objects spotted.

The National UFO Reporting Centre is an organisation that investigates sightings.

Since it was set up in 1974, reports have been sent to it via its 24 hour hotline and it says that between May and June this year there have been more than 500 new sightings.

The United States collectively reports 2,500 sightings per 10 million people, which is 300 times more than the global median.

The existence of the AATIP was revealed in 2017, along with a 33-second DOD video that shows an airborne object being chased by two Navy jets off the coast of San Diego in 2004.

At the time, former Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid took credit for arranging $22 million in annual funding for the AATIP,  that it was “one of the good things I did in my congressional service.”
Reid’s home state of Nevada hosts the top-secret military installation known as “Area 51,” long rumoured to be the storehouse for an alien craft that crashed in Roswell, New Mexico, in 1947.

The service is drafting new guidelines for pilots and other naval employees so it's easier for them to report any mysterious objects they spot in the sky.

A few years ago, a leaked report from the Pentagon revealed that a supersonic UFO shaped like a Tic Tac sweet had stalked a US Aircraft carrier for days before vanishing into thin air.

Some of the pilots said that the aircraft could make itself invisible as it travelled next to them.

The craft was described by one of the pilots mentioned in the report as "solid white, smooth, with no edges... uniformly coloured with no nacelles, pylons or wings", and looked like "an elongated egg or Tic Tac".

Sceptics think that the sighting could be explained by equipment malfunction or human error.
