Horrific injuries of female paramedic beaten senseless by drunken yob she was trying to help

THE daughter of a paramedic has released a harrowing photo showing her mum with black eyes after she was beaten up by a drunken reveller while on duty.

Brenda Fox was left covered in bruises after she was pinned to the floor of her ambulance at the weekend by a violent thug on a night out.

The East of England Ambulance Service said the attack was “completely unacceptable” and they would push for the “strongest penalties” for those responsible.

Brenda's daughter Kerry slammed the “w****r” who got “off his face” and battered her mum as she tried to help in the early hours of Sunday morning in Hitchin, Herts, alongside her colleague Ailsa White.

Posting on Facebook, Kerry said she was “absolutely fuming and disgusted” that her mum should be subjected to such a beating while doing her job.

She said: “My mum works for the ambulance service and got called out to a job last night in Hitchin town because some w****r decided to get off his face and then thought it would be alright to abuse her and her crew mate.

";They decided to call the police due to his continuing disgusting behaviour he then thought it would be OK to beat the total s**t out of my mum.”

BRUISES ALL OVER

Kerry went on to say that her mum was left with black eyes and bruises all over her body.

She went on: “He continued to punch her while on top of her on the floor of the ambulance.

“Eventually the police arrived and took many officers to drag this scum bag of my mum."

Debbie Redhead said in the comments below the post: “Still absolutely sick to the stomach about this.

“Just sickens me - your mum is one of the loveliest people I know."

PARAMEDIC ATTACKS ON THE RISE

Violent assaults on ambulance staff have soared in recent years, according to official figures.

They have surged by a third in just four years, according to stats released by the GMB Union last summer.

Staff reported they had been bitten, stabbed and even sexually assaulted.

Ambulance staff were subjected to a total of 14,441 physical assaults between 2012/13 and January this year, the union claimed, with almost three-quarters of staff affected.

A fifth of the 500 ambulance staff polled by the union had to take sick leave following an attack, and 37 per cent  said they had considered leaving their job because of the threat of violence.

Almost half claimed the support offered by their employer was “inadequate”.

MPs have consistently said that those convicted of paramedic attacks should face tougher sentences.

No one should be told that facing violence is just ‘part of the job'

Kevin BrandstatterGMB NHS national officer

In 2018 a paramedic was attacked during a parking row in Birmingham while trying to help a woman with chest pain.

She was threatened and verbally assaulted after an alleged argument erupted over where their vehicle was parked.

And in 2017, an ambulance crew was attacked by a coach driver in London as they helped seriously ill OAP because he didn’t like how they parked.

At the time, Kevin Brandstatter, GMB NHS national officer, said the risk of violence against ambulance workers was rising as cuts to services increased the number of lone workers.

He said: “No one should be told that facing violence is just ‘part of the job’.

“The number of attacks faced by ambulance workers as they try to save lives is beyond unacceptable.

“Changing the law will be an important first step as current sentences aren’t providing an adequate deterrent.”

Hertfordshire Police are looking into the assault.

A spokeswoman for the East of England Ambulance Service, said: “We were called at 12.29am yesterday with reports of a person who was unwell in Sun Street, Hitchin.

"Two members of staff attended and were assaulted while trying to help a patient.

"We are supporting both of our colleagues and the incident has been reported to police.

“Our Don’t Choose to Abuse campaign reminds everyone that, although we often see people in very difficult circumstances, they still have a choice in how they behave – and the consequences of abusing our staff can be serious.”
