AN ex-commando has donated his frostbitten toes – so they can be served in a hotel cocktail.
Brit Nick Griffiths, 47, had three amputated after competing in an extreme winter ultra-marathon in Canada last year.
In hospital a nurse joked he should give them to a local hotel which serves a cocktail containing a human toe.
Nick, who had to pull out of the Yukon Arctic Ultra amid -54C temperatures, recalled: “It is a bit bizarre but I thought it’d be a laugh. You have to see the funny side of things.”
The dad of two returned home to Bolton with his toes in jars, then later decided to post them in a jiffy bag to the Downtown Hotel in Dawson City.
After six weeks with no news, Nick feared they had been intercepted by customs. But last week he was told they had arrived at the hotel, and were being prepared for their “Sourtoe Cocktail”.
They will now be mummified, which takes six weeks, and then the hotel will fly him out so he can sample one.

For over four decades, tourists and residents there have been able to order a drink of their choice, such as a Yukon Jack whisky liqueur, with a human toe floating inside.
Former marine Nick said: “I’m pretty confident I’ll be the first person to have had a Sourtoe Cocktail with their own toe. It’d be great if my daughters came too. Amy is 22 and Hannah is 18 so they’re both old enough to try it.”
Hotel manager Adam Gerle said of his toes: “They are very hard to come by these days and this generous ‘toe-nation’ will help ensure the tradition continues.”
