City boss suspended for ‘joke’ about female colleague’s love of ‘glazed rings’ after buying doughnuts

A CITY boss who brought in doughnuts was suspended after joking about a colleague’s love of “glazed rings”.

James Conmy emailed staff at a reinsurance firm to offer “birthday treats”.

He wrote this week: “There are doughnuts on Alf’s desk as it’s my birthday today.

“I hope people like Krispy Kremes - I know [female colleague] enjoys a glazed ring.”

But his furious co-worker hit back: “This is absolutely totally unacceptable James.

"There are limits to ‘jokes’ you can send at work copying in all colleagues - this is extremely rude and offensive. Please note that this will be forwarded to HR - HAPPY BIRTHDAY!”

Mr Conmy, a divorced dad from Medway, Kent, is understood to rake in more than £150,000 at Guy Carpenter.

Mr Conmy was suspended pending an investigation. The firm is part of Marsh, one of the world’s biggest insurance brokers.

A spokesman said: “Our first priority is our affected colleague and we are offering all the support and counselling we can.”
