Social media users go wild thinking Donald Trump FIST BUMPED the Queen when he shook her hand

SOCIAL media users went wild as they thought Donald Trump fist bumped the Queen when he shook her hand this afternoon.

Twitter exploded in disbelief as people questioned how the US President had greeted Her Majesty, but it was just a tricky camera angle.

Body language expert Judi James also told the Sun Online that it may have been due to the handshake being slightly awkward, as the two heads of state went into for different styles.

While it looked like the President had perhaps gone for a more casual fist bump greeting, Ms James thinks it is actually just because Mr Trump performed the greeting "at a polite distance".

She added: "The Queen tends to shake using just the top half of her fingers and no pressing of palms.

"Trump is an avid hand-clamper and the result seems to be he has curled his hand up to touch hers, resulting in what looks for all the world like a fist-bump.

"It's hilarious - watching the size differentiation between them is comedy gold.

"His huge hand was enveloping her tiny one. But she was quite happy, chuckling and laughing."

But the internet was fooled as Twitter users expressed shock at what they believed they had witnessed.

One person posted: "Trump and Queen fist bump in historic first."

As the President's three-day tour of the UK kicks off today, Prince Charles and Camilla greeted Mr Trump and his wife Melania at the Queen's official residence in London.

They led the First Couple across the lawn of the palace garden to where the Monarch was waiting for them.

As they shook hands, Ms James said: "There were undeniable signals of warmth between Trump and The Queen.

"She was even seen chuckling happily as she waited on the steps of the Palace watching the President taking his troop inspection very seriously, carefully stopping and chatting to guardsmen rather than rushing past as he did on his previous visit."

The Queen hosted lunch for Mr Trump and wife Melania, then led them on a tour of Buckingham Palace - where the Queen presented them with carefully chosen gifts.

The First Couple moved on to Westminster Abbey later, to place a wreath at the grave of the Unknown Warrior.

Mr Trump has been described as approaching a handshake like an arm wrestle, in which he clasps the hand and pulls sharply, leaving the recipient off-balance.

He yanked French President Emmanuel Macron's hand at the Bastille Day celebration in July 2017, holding on to it for nearly 30 seconds.

At the White House in April 2018, he also led the French leader away from reporters after shaking his hand and keeping hold of it.

Prime Minister Theresa May also encountered Mr Trump's unusual mode of dealing with foreign leaders.

They held hands as they walked along at the White House during their first meeting in January 2017.

Mrs May later said the US president was "actually being a gentleman";.
