British family arrested in Majorca accused of using fake notes to pay for holiday

FIVE members of an Anglo-Irish family have been arrested in Majorca over alleged fake notes.

They were held after a shop worker alerted police about a £50 note.

Cops found 400 euros, allegedly obtained by swapping counterfeit sterling at exchanges.

They confiscated £850 in alleged fake £50 notes.

The five - Michael Coffey, 26, Richard Coffey, 22, Annegelena O’Driscoll, 25, Michael Quilligan, 35 and a minor —were charged with possessing and passing counterfeit notes in Santa Ponsa.

A spokesman for the Civil Guard force said: “The Civil Guard has arrested five Irish and British people for an alleged crime of currency falsification.

They were released on provisional liberty.
