DONALD Trump has said he feels sorry for Theresa May - just hours after the PM announced she will resign next month.
The President - who will visit the UK before May officially steps down - paid tribute to the departing Prime Minister as he walked through the White House grounds yesterday.
He said: "I feel badly for Theresa. I like her very much. She's a good woman.
"She worked very hard. She's very strong. She decided to do something that some people were surprised at, some people weren't. It's for the good of her country.
"But I like her very much. In fact, I'll be seeing her in two weeks."
The PM will formally resign as party leader on June 7, she confirmed today in an emotional speech from Downing Street.

That means she will quit two days after Mr Trump completes his tour of the UK.
Buckingham Palace today announced the full timetable for the President's state visit including several meetings with Mrs May.
He will attend the state banquet hosted by the Queen on June 3, then hold talks with the PM on June 4.
They will hold a joint press conference at 10 Downing Street - but allies of Mrs May are worried the President may embarrass her by expressing support for her rivals.
One Cabinet minister told The Sun he feared Mr Trump could endorse either Boris Johnson or Nigel Farage when he's in town.
The minister said: "You can imagine him saying, 'I could do a deal with these guys.'"
The President is a close pal of Brexit Party boss Mr Farage and has previously expressed support for Boris to become PM.
On June 5, Mrs May will again join Mr Trump for a ceremony in Portsmouth to mark the 75th anniversary of D-Day.
His state visit ends later that day - but the PM is expected to travel to France on June 6 to mark the D-Day commemoration there.
Mrs May will step down from the Tory leadership on June 7 but will continue as PM in an interim capacity for another six weeks or so.
The last time Mr Trump visited Britain he slammed Mrs May's Brexit deal in an interview with The Sun.
