She was holidaying at the four-star Club Cettia Apartments in Marmaris, Turkey, when a rep slid the threatening note under her door.

It said: "Hi there. There’s been a complaint regarding a slimy substance in the toaster in your apartment.

"As this is considered as damaging hotel property the amount of the toaster is £90 and needs to be paid to the hotel as soon as possible.

"If not you will be issued with a final warning and unfortunately asked to leave.

TOASTER COST £90

"Thank you, Alex, your Thomas Cook Rep."

Katie - who immediately told reception and bought a basic toaster as a replacement - hit out at the holiday firm on Facebook.

She blasted: "It wasn't done on purpose. How wrong was I to assume my honesty would be appreciated.

"I'm so shocked, angry and upset how someone is able to make threats of paying £90 for a toaster or I will be asked to leave.

"Where would I go? I'm on my own with two toddlers, in a foreign country. My anxiety is through the roof right now.

"I really don't care if this is spread far and wide across social media as the way this message reads is appalling.

"I am alone with two small children aged two and three. It was the first holiday abroad for them.

"My youngest daughter decided to put slime in the toaster within our apartment.

"I popped to the toilet, and shower for all of five minutes. I didn't notice what had happened straight away so the slime had set."

As Thomas Cook spokeswoman said: "It is normal for customers to be asked to pay for items they damage at their hotel. However we appreciate we could have been a bit friendlier.

"Our resort team are working to resolve this with the customer before she comes home."
