AN 18-year-old student was chased and stabbed to death as he marked the anniversary of his friend who was shot dead exactly one year ago.
Junior McCauley was pursued by a hooded attacker before being knifed in South London last night.
A friend of the tragic teenager, Arceana, told how his mum was at the hospital and cried out for her son when he died at around 11pm.
She said Junior was meeting friends near Elephant and Castle to pay tribute to Rhyheim Barton, 17, who was gunned down in the borough on May 5 last year.
Sobbing at the murder scene, she said: "He was a really genuine guy and he was friends with everyone.
"I heard his mum was screaming when she found out.
"He used to call me mum a lot, because I have got two little kids, and I used to call him son.
"He used to look up to me a lot and that's why it's so upsetting. He used to come to family events all the time."
Junior died a year to the day his friend drill rapper Rhyhiem, who performed under the name GB, was killed in a drive-by shooting on the Brandon Estate in Kennington, South London.
Arceana continued: "We are now mourning two people - Rhyheim was murdered this time last year and he was in the same group of friends.
"Junior must have been there, he went there yesterday.
"He was never involved in any crime or with knives.
"His home is not far from here. I don't know if he was running home or if he came this way."
Detective Chief Inspector Richard Leonard urged anyone with any information about the culprit(s) to get in touch immediately, saying it could be "vital" to solving the case.
He added: "The victim was seen being chased by another male wearing a grey or blue hoodie from Newington Gardens into Tiverton Street where he was attacked and shortly after found by police and London Air Ambulance," he said.
The 18-year-old is the ninth teen to have been stabbed to death in London this year.
The teen is the 29th person to be killed by a knife in London this year and is the 46th murder probe launched by Scotland Yard.
On Wednesday night 15-year-old Tashaun Aird, an aspiring music producer, was knifed to death in Hackney. His death made him the youngest person to be killed by a blade attack after Jaden Moodie, 14, was murdered in January.
Figures last week revealed five young people are attacked with a knife every day in London.
