‘Thrill-seeking’ prison guard who had sex with killer inmate in his cell on Christmas Day sobs as she’s jailed
Emily Watson, 26, from Huddersfield, performed a sex act on John McGee in his prison cell on Christmas Day
A THRILL-SEEKING prison guard who performed a sex act on a killer inmate on Christmas Day was today jailed for 12 months.
Emily Watson, 26, fell in love with John McGee who was serving an eight-year prison sentence for causing death by dangerous driving following a hit-and-run in Liverpool.
Watson, employed at Britain's biggest prison at HMP Berwyn in Wrexham, went to his cell alone on three occasions and performed a sex act on him twice and had full intercourse with him once.
Mold Crown Court heard he was able to contact her on Instagram using an iPhone 6 which was hidden inside a Playstation console. McGee then opened the console with a screwdriver disguised as a pen.
SEXTING
She sent him explicit images and video footage and the pair talked over FaceTime, the court heard.
He registered her number under another name on his official prison phone and records showed there were 96 calls between the pair in one month.
Watson, of Huddersfield, West Yorks, wept as she was jailed for 12 months after admitting misconduct in public office by engaging in an intimate sexual relationship with a prisoner between October 2017 and January 2018.
The court heard Watson was said to have realised it was getting out of hand and handed in her notice.
Judge Niclas Parry said that she would understand that "everything about this case is so, so wrong."
This quite reprehensible behaviour was willingly entered into for nothing other than thrill-seeking and personal gratification, having been flattered
Judge Niclas Parry
He said that in December 2015 McGee, on licence from a custodial sentence for supplying class A drugs, drove at excessive speed in an attempt to evade arrest in a police chase.
McGee drove with his lights off and ploughed into charity worker Richard Bratin, 52, as he was out walking his dog. He was killed and McGee drove off leaving him for dead.
Judge Parry said: “One can only hope that the sentence of eight years imprisonment would have been some comfort to the family of Mr Bratin.
BETRAYAL
"Therefore it is difficult to imagine the feel of betrayal they must have felt at finding out that he was able to have free access to an iPhone in prison and conduct a sexual relationship from his prison cell."
He added: “This quite reprehensible behaviour was willingly entered into for nothing other than thrill-seeking and personal gratification, having been flattered.”
The judge said it was a "gross dereliction of duty” and added: “If prison officers are corrupt then the system falls apart.”
They had sex three times in his cell, oral sex on Christmas Day and on another occasion - and they had intercourse on January 19.
The court heard when interviewed by cops, she made a full confession and said she believed herself to be in love with him.
