THERESA MAY could be booted out as PM by furious Tory MPs in mid-June under radical plans to be considered by senior figures today.

The Sun can reveal the Conservative 1922 committee is expected to vote on an extraordinary proposal to rewrite party rules to allow a new no confidence challenge just six months after the PM survived the last one in December.

It would only be allowed if 92 Tories – or 30 per cent of MPs – submit a no confidence letter to backbench ‘kingpin’ Sir Graham Brady.

Currently, the PM cannot endure a new challenge for 12 months – meaning she is ‘safe’ until the end of 2019.

It comes after Nigel Evans - a senior 1922 member – last night publicly called for the PM to go next month over the Brexit mess. He told The Sun: “Reluctantly I have decided we need fresh leadership.”

He said she should go on May 23 if European Elections have to take place on that day.

Sources claimed Sir Graham Brady will challenge the PM to go by a certain date in face-to-face talks later this week.

Separately furious Conservative grassroots campaigners revealed they will hold an extraordinary general meeting over Theresa May’s leadership next month.

More than 70 local association chiefs have signed a petition triggering the move. A senior Tory yesterday admitted the PM’s days appeared numbered.

They told The Sun: “All this weekend, my constituents haven’t wanted to talk about Brexit, their number one concern is getting rid of Theresa May.”

Theresa May survived a no confidence challenge by Tory MPs on December 12 by a majority of 83 votes – 200 to 117.

She has repeatedly claimed she will only stay on as PM as long “as the party wants me”. In March she agreed to go if MPs backed her Brexit deal.

One Tory MP last night branded the move by the 1922 Committee “Stalinist” and said it would set a worrying precedent. He said: “What happens when a new leader comes in and they decide they don’t want him?

“Will they rewrite the rules again?”

But furious Brexiteer MP James Duddridge said: “The PM should pre-empt being pushed and should resign with some dignity – triggering a leadership election.”
