THE Labour party have been berated for an embarrassing Twitter gaffe after they posted a St George's Day message 24 hours early.
Its official account merrily issued a tweet yesterday morning wishing everyone a "Happy St George's Day" - before quickly deleting it when it was pointed out it is in fact tomorrow.
The full message went on to read: "With the next Labour government, we'll celebrate the patron saint with a bank holiday and bank holidays for St Patrick, St David and St Andrew too.
"Sound good? Share the news."
The attempt to sway potential future voters with extra bank holidays left the party with egg on it's face, when eagle-eyed Twitter users noticed the key mix-up.
One person responded: "The Labour party has tweeted Happy St George's Day... on the wrong day... and these p***** wanna run the country!"
Another said: "I'm looking forward to their Christmas Day message... on the 24th December."
And despairing person added: "How is a country meant to vote for you, you can't get the date right."
The tweet was swiftly deleted, as was an enthusiastic posting of the same message from Northumberland Labour.
The initial post is possible to be a scheduling error, but Twitter refused to let the embarrassing mistake go.
An infuriated Brit wrote: "Labour - the party that wants to run this great country can't even get the date of Saint George's Day right.
"Incompetent, idiotic, mismanaged? Which is it?"
ANOTHER GAFFE
Another person quickly posted: "Hidden agenda? The labour party obviously plans to change the date of st georges day to 22nd April."
And one more sternly informed the party: "Yeah, St Georges Day isn't on the 22nd of April, it's the 23rd of April!"
This marks another gaffe in a week where Labour's Shadow Home Secretary was forced to apologise after being caught drinking alcohol on an overground train.
Ms Abbott said she was “sincerely sorry” for drinking the Marks and Spencer cocktail.
She wrote on Twitter: “A photo of me drinking from a can of M&S mojito on the Overground has been circulated.
“I’m sincerely sorry for drinking on TFL.”

And last week we told how the party faced ridicule for illustrating its Passover message online with a loaf of bread – the food Jewish people are forbidden from eating during the religious festival.
The social media mistake led to fresh claims that the party does not care about the Jewish community.
