PARANORMAL investigator Lorraine Warren, who inspired the Conjuring horror franchise, has died at the age of 92.

He said: "Last night my grandmother, Lorraine Warren, quietly and peacefully left us to join her beloved Ed. She was happy and laughing until the very end."

Warren and husband Ed, who passed away in 2006, shot to fame for their world-renowned paranormal investigations which formed the basis to the horror film franchise.

Lorraine born on January 31, 1927, investigated a number of paranormal cases with her husband Ed.

One case which gave them worldwide acclaim was in Amityville, New York that later inspired the 1977 book The Amityville Horror - which was also made into a film.

Warren's son in law Tony Spera said: "She died peacefully in her sleep at home last night.

"The family requests that you respect their privacy at this time. Lorraine touched many lives and was loved by so many. She was a remarkable, loving, compassionate and giving soul."

The first film was released in 2013 and made more than £245 million with a budget of just £17 million, the second film was released in 2016 and a third is in development.

Lorraine's character in the Conjuring investigated a haunted Rhode Island farmhouse.

The couple also created a museum featuring haunted objects they kept from probes including the real Annabelle doll.
