Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s baby nicknamed Clive after their secret stays at Cliveden House where staff joke tot was conceived
BABY Sussex has been nicknamed “Clive” after Harry and Meghan went on a series of secret breaks at Cliveden House last summer.
Staff at the posh country house hotel – where Meghan stayed the night before her wedding – have joked that the couple conceived their baby there.
After the news broke that Harry and Meghan are expecting their first baby, due any day now, workers dubbed it a “Cliveden baby”.
Meghan loved the £500-a-night five-star hotel so much, she and Harry popped back regularly last summer and autumn.
They stayed in a hideaway cottage in the grounds, enjoying romantic walks and lazy lunches.
A source said: “Harry and Meghan were always popping back to Cliveden for romantic stays after their wedding.
“They spent a number of days there last summer and autumn.
SECRET STAYS
“Staff are joking that their baby is a Cliveden baby and if it’s a boy they should call him Clive, as they enjoyed their time so much there.
“They often stayed in a very private cottage in the grounds, Spring Cottage, and not many people would know they were there.
“But the ladies in their exercise classes were quite surprised when they used to walk by!
“Meghan really fell in love with the hotel and particularly the history of the two famous women who lived there, Nancy Astor and the Duchess of Sutherland.”
The Sun understands the couple particularly loved the National Trust grounds that the hotel is set in, and were often spotted walking hand-in-hand.
Spring Cottage boasts three bedrooms, private gardens, its own kitchen and dining room, plus a private River Thames boat launch mooring for £2,055 a night.
The palatial mansion was built in 1666 for the Duke of Buckingham. American millionaire William Astor bought the pile in 1893 and in 1961 Christine Keeler famously seduced John Profumo while cooling off in the house’s outdoor pool.
The 19th century Duchess of Sutherland was a close friend of Prime Minister William Gladstone and used her position to spear-head good causes such as the protests against American slavery.
Meghan and her mum Doria Ragland stayed at the hotel the night before she married Harry in May last year.
Meghan, 37, is due any day now, meaning baby Sussex was conceived in July last year.
The couple announced her pregnancy in October last year before their tour of Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and Tonga.
They want to keep the birth of baby Sussex private and Meghan will not be appearing on any hospital steps after she gives birth.
