FARAGE FIGHTS BACK

Nigel Farage says his new Brexit Party will unleash political revolution and terrify Tories at the European Elections

NIGEL FARAGE last night claimed his new Brexit Party will spark a political “revolution” at the European Elections – and terrify the Tories.

The ex-UKIP chief revealed will formally launch the party in Coventry this Friday and contest every region on May 23 to give voters the chance to “fight back against the betrayal of democracy” by Theresa May.

The blast came as serving arch Tory Brexiteer MP Anne Marie Morris said she may vote for the Brexit Party if the Elections take place.

Confirming he will stand to become an MEP, Mr Farage said the party had been inundated with “just under 1,000” requests from people wanting to be a candidate.

And he told The Sun: “I said in 2013 that UKIP was going to cause an earthquake in British politics and I think we can safely say we did that.

We hope to have a profound effect on the Conservative Party and to shift the centre of gravity once more

“The ambition now is to cause a revolution in British politics – and to end the two-party structure as it is, it’s just not working.”

He added: “We hope to have a profound effect on the Conservative Party and to shift the centre of gravity once more.”

Mr Farage accused the PM of turning Britain into a “laughing stock on the world stage” over Brexit.

And revealing he sat down with Donald Trump four weeks ago he added: “There are several people in the American administration American administration who are looking on with incredulity that what they thought was a great country suddenly is being humbled by foreign bureaucrats.”

Mr Farage quit UKIP in December – claiming his old party had an anti-Muslim “fixation”.

UKIP won the European Elections in 2015 with 27 per cent of the vote.

The Brexit Party was formally registered as a political party in February and launched last week. Mr Farage claims European Election candidates will ideally be men and women be drawn from the business world rather than old MPs.

Parties stand 70 candidates across 10 regions.

Bookies yesterday made the Brexit Party second favourites for the European Elections at 3-1, behind Labour at 5-4.

Theresa May formally launched the countdown for the poll on Monday but insists she wants to pass a Brexit deal before the nation is forced to vote.

'WESTMINSTER BUBBLE'

Mr Farage said he is convinced the vote “will happen”.

And he blasted Mrs May’s failure to deliver the Brexit he campaigned for with UKIP.

He said the “Westminister bubble” had completely misunderstood the mood of people across the country - who just want to leave the EU.

Attacking the PM he said: “I can’t believe she has ever been involved in any negotiation of any kind at any point in her life.

“She is without doubt the worst Prime Minister in my lifetime and the most duplicitous – she says one thing and does the other again and again and again.”

He added: “There is a feeling that politics is broken, the public is being treated with utter disdain. There is a break down in trust between the Government and the governed and I would add to that a feeling that the Government is incompetent.

“How can it be that 3 years on we have got nowhere?”
