Tony Blair says a Boris Johnson-led Tory Party would beat Jeremy Corbyn’s Labour in an election

The former Labour PM called BoJo a 'formidable campaigner' and predicts that a Conservative Government under him would prove victorious

A BORIS Johnson-led Tory Government would beat Jeremy Corbyn’s Labour in an election, Tony Blair has declared.

The former Labour PM said the ex-Foreign Secretary was a “formidable campaigner”. And he predicted victory for the Tories under him if Labour retains Jeremy Corbyn’s “revolutionary” politics.

Speaking to left-leaning website Huffington Post, he said: “If you have a Boris Johnson led Conservative Party, he’s a formidable campaigner, he’s an interesting personality, he can get out there and do his stuff, for sure.

“I have absolutely no doubt if you have a right wing populism against a left wing populism in this country, the right wing will win.”

But he added any Tory would have to be “certifiable” to fight an election under the “shadow of Brexit”.

The ex-PM added that he believed Chuka Umunna’s new Independent Group could do well in any European Elections because so many votes “don’t feel very satisfied by either political party”.
