Mum’s horror as her baby, 11 months, suffers 80% burns after falling in bucket of boiling water used to fill his bath
Daniil Chernenko is critically ill after the accident in Ukraine
A MUM was horrified when her 11-month-old baby toppled into a bucket of boiling water used to fill his bath.
Daniil Chernenko suffered 80 per cent burns and doctors are battling to save his life, say reports.
Daniil’s mother, Tetyana Chernenko, was about to bathe him at home in the village of Salhany in southern Ukraine.
She brought a bucket filled with boiling hot water into the bedroom and placed it on the floor near a table.
The mum was going to mix it with cold water in a baby bath on top of the table.
Daniil was playing on the table near the bathtub.
But, when his mother turned away for a few seconds, the child fell from the table into the bucket.
Mrs Chernenko told local reporters: “I saw how he fell in the boiling water. I rushed to the bucket and pulled him out.
“I hugged him, then wrapped in a cotton cloth. When I unwrapped him I saw his skin was peeling off.”
Daniil was rushed to hospital in Odessa in a critical condition.
Reportedly only the skin on the boy’s forehead, fingers and toes avoided being scalded.
Heartbreaking pictures taken by Katherine Nozhevnikova, a volunteer from a local charity, show Daniil lying on a hospital bed.
Nurses said he got hoarse from constant crying caused by the unbearable pain.
Doctors said they are doing everything possible to save his life, and they are trying to avoid to talk about his chances of survival.
Vadim Shukhtin, the head of Odessa Region Clinical Hospital, said: “His condition is very serious. The boy receives all possible treatment and medication.”
Mum Tetyana is in the hospital with her son.
Media reports say the distraught mum cannot forgive herself for what happened to her child.
Police are treating it as an accident.
