LIFE’S A BEACH

Brits celebrate as Benidorm’s Tiki Beach bar re-opens after court battle forced it to close… and becomes ‘bar with no name’

Spanish judges ordered the closure of the ‘controversial’ fun pub last September - devastating thousands of holidaymakers and fun-loving locals

BENIDORM'S beloved Tiki Beach bar has shocked tourists after suddenly reopening  - months after it was shut down "for good" by the courts.

Party-pooping Spanish judges ordered the closure of the ‘controversial’ fun pub last September - devastating thousands of holidaymakers and fun-loving locals.

The hugely-popular watering hole was ordered to close "for good" following years of complaints from ibleary-eyed neighbours.

It was a massive favourite with Brits for daytime as well as evening boozing until the courts called time on the bar.

But now the sun-soaked alehouse appears to be back in business after a video posted on Friday showed it packed with punters.

The bar - which looks exactly the same but has a tweaked logo - will now reportedly be a'bar with no name.'

A spokesman for the management reportedly said the bar "will always be known as Tiki Beach" anyway.

A clip posted on Facebook by Kirill Timoshenko shows dozens of people downing booze at the bar's "opening party."

And the news has been welcomed by those due to holiday in the fun-packed resort this summer.

Liz Len wrote: "Great news...had some amazing days and nights in there. Hope to have some more."

MaxandKen Gibson added: "Was there on Wednesday and everything had been moved out, cannot believe everything now back in place."

Christine Arthur wrote: "So glad its reopened can't wait to visit again in August with my Hubby. we loved it last August. Happy days xx"

However Donny Armstrong warned: "Just walked past. Overspill onto the road. Noisy so the residents won't like it (again)."

The last time we reported on the legendary bar it had been reduced to a building site after a court battle forced it to close.

HOLIDAY FAVOURITE

Loyal customers arriving at their favourite holiday haunt during the February school break have been left “devastated” at finding it shut.

Kirsha Knowles, 42, of Newcastle, said at the time: “I have come on holiday with my husband, 12-year-old daughter and my mam and dad and we walked to the front to see Tiki Beach.

“I was absolutely devastated to see it has closed. Its frontage is covered by big black sheets and workmen are inside.

“The tables and chairs are gone and things are being ripped out.”

Bar-goers had been replaced with builders after judges ordered Tiki Beach to close last October.

However, its owners defied that demand for more than a month, serving thirsty visitors during the lucrative November fiesta week when about 45,000 Brits descended upon Benidorm.

Spain’s Supreme Court had ordered the bar to serve its last pint after a lengthy dispute with neighbours about an alleged “noise disturbance” in April 2016.

The bar’s owners initially refused to go peacefully, and launched an appeal to keep the venue running – but ended up losing their legal bid.

Some Brits who had no idea about its recent closure were left mourning the loss of their favourite boozer after stumbling across its locked doors.

Regular Karen Hamilton, of Whitley Bay, told the Newcastle Chronicle that Benidorm isn’t the same without the Tiki bar.

Telling the paper she couldn’t believe it had been shut down, Hamilton added that it was the place to visit for hen and stag parties.

Lamenting the loss of its “great atmosphere”, she said that while there was “always lots of drinking” at the venue, she had never noticed “any trouble; just lots of people enjoying themselves.”
