Police post harrowing pic of blood-soaked hospital bed as UK knife crime offences hit nine-year high

West Midlands Police shared the horrifying image with blood all over the floor and bed on Twitter

COPS today shared a harrowing picture of a blood-drenched hospital room to warn of the dangers of carrying a blade - as UK knife crime offences hit a nine-year high.

The shocking image shows blood all over the floor and soaking through the bed, after a victim was carried in on a stretcher.

It is thought the photo was taken in China and was shared on West Midlands Police's twitter feed this week.

CID West Midlands wrote: "If you want to carry a knife...... Think before you do.

"This might be what awaits you. #lifeorknife #opforecast."

Shocked people wrote underneath the horrifying picture, with one commenting: "It needs to be bought home to people. And the consequences of a prison sentence for people found carrying a knife on second occasion.

"It's not a film that can be replayed or a video game. Life is precious. You only have one go at it. Do good and not harm."

Another posted: "Get the image circulated around schools, colleges etc, might wake a few 'Hard Guys' brains.

"Hope they've managed to help this victim?!?"

It comes as cops struggle to cope with the amount of knife attacks in the UK, as bloodshed reaches shocking levels.

And as the number of criminals caught with knives or dangerous weapons has hit its highest level in nearly a decade, official figures revealed.

KNIFE CRIME EPIDEMIC

Last year more than 21,000 offences of possessing or making threats with blades or offensive weapons resulted in a conviction or caution in England and Wales. One in five of the culprits was aged under 18.

The statistics also showed that almost two-thirds of cases did not result in an immediate prison term.

However, the Government insists offenders are now more likely to go to jail for knife or offensive weapons crimes.

The findings come as police and ministers attempt to face down a knife crime "epidemic" following a spate of fatal stabbings.

Today we reported how an eight-year-old girl took a knife into a primary school and threatened to stab a cop in the heart.

It comes as Britain battles a knife crisis with more than 40 people stabbed to death across the country so far this year - including 12 in just two weeks.

Teens Jodie Chesney and Yousef Makki, both 17, were stabbed to death in a devastating weekend of violence earlier this month.

Meanwhile, Scotland Yard chiefs have unveiled plans to tackle the knife epidemic by stop-and-searching 1,000 suspects every day.

Philip Hammond yesterday announced a £100 million funding package to tackle Britain's knife crime epidemic.

The cash will go towards violent crime units in the seven worst affected UK cities.

It is a major victory for Home Secretary Sajid Javid, who demanded the cash after the surge in knife killings this year.

The money will also help pay for police officers overtime as they struggle to combat spiralling knife crime.
