A MAN was gunned down outside his parents' Dublin home last night in a suspected gangland attack.
The victim, named locally as 42-year-old David Lynch, was blasted to death in the Foxdene area at 2.12pm Friday.
It is understood he was blasted a number of times in the front garden of a house.
Emergency services rushed to the scene but he was pronounced dead a short time later.
Soon after police were alerted to a van on fire in nearby Clondalkin.
Cops found a Peugeot Partner van burnt out beside a community school and a handgun and silencer lying nearby.
A silver Toyota Corolla was then found in flames at The Paddocks Rise in Lucam at 2.30pm. Police are linking both vehicles to the killing.
A gun was then found abandoned near a school.
Superintendent Paul Dolan described the shooting as "cold and callous."
Speaking outside Lucan police station tonight the police said: "This male had apparent gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene. The Coroner for Dublin was notified and the services of the State Pathologist were requested.
"A police team has conducted its investigation at the scene and this remains ongoing.
"It's a cold, callous crime at 2pm on a busy day with a man going about his business in a residential area with a vehicle abandoned in the vicinity of a school.
"We do have patrols in the area and in areas close-by. I will be revisiting those patrols with a view to focusing the patrols in the area to allay public's concerns."
In a statement released tonight police confirmed the body has been removed from the scene with a post-mortem scheduled for tomorrow.
It says: "A firearm was recovered in the vicinity of the van. At 2.30pm a silver Toyota Corolla was found on fire at The Paddocks Rise, Lucan, and Co Dublin
"The scene of the shooting remains sealed off and is the subject of a police forensic examination.
"Police in Lucan are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information."
Earlier a police spokesperson said: "Police are investigating a fatal shooting which occurred in the front garden of a house at Foxdene, Dublin.
"A number of shots were discharged at the scene.
"A man believed to be in his 40s was fatally injured.
"The scene of the shooting is currently preserved pending an examination by Police Crime Scene Examiners."
"The body of the deceased remains at scene. Investigations ongoing and updates will follow."
