Meghan Markle and Prince Harry caught up in furious row over magazine’s claims they want to raise a ‘GENDER-FLUID BABY’
Respected society mag Vanity Fair said the revelation came at her New York baby shower – with the couple staying silent for 12 hours before officials insisted: 'It’s false'
A royal insider told the society mag: “Meghan has been talking to some of her friends about the birth and how she and Harry plan to raise their baby.
“Her exact word was fluid.
"She said they plan to raise their child with a fluid approach to gender and they won’t be imposing any stereotypes.”
The term “fluid” may have meant the couple deciding to avoid dressing the tot in blue or pink colours.
RAISING 'THEYBIES'
Others raising children that way encourage them to play with toys typically associated with both sexes such as Barbie dolls and trucks.
Another group raise “Theybies”, children who are not identified as male or female.
News sites ran the story for 12 hours yesterday without comment from Meghan, 37, and Harry, 34.
Royal officials finally insisted: “This story is totally false.”
It is not known why the Sussexes allowed the story to take hold for so long.
In January, The Sun exclusively revealed the Duchess was using vegan paint infused with eucalyptus oil to decorate her “gender-free” nursery in whites and greys at Frogmore Cottage, Windsor.
The sex of the baby, due next month, has not been publicly revealed. But it was recently reported that Meghan told a pal at the baby shower it is a boy.
Decorations at the bash at a £57,000-a-night New York penthouse included pinks and blues. Guests including Amal Clooney, 41, and tennis ace Serena Williams, 37, were treated to cupcakes iced in pink and green frosting.
Meghan is known for her views on gender and women’s rights. In 1993 she wrote urging Procter & Gamble to change an ad proclaiming “women all over America are fighting greasy pots and pans”.
The firm bowed to her wishes and altered the wording from “women” to “people”. Meghan later revealed: “I don’t think it is right for kids to grow up thinking mum does everything.”
Actress Kate Hudson claimed in January she was taking a “genderless approach” with daughter Rani.
She later explained she meant she is raising her kids to feel free to be whoever they want to be and to express themselves.
