TERROR WARNING

Shamima Begum could launch terror attacks in Britain and win new ISIS recruits if she’s allowed back, Sajid Javid warns

JIHADIST teen Shamima Begum could recruit more Brits to ISIS or even carry out a terror attack if she's allowed back into Britain, Sajid Javid warned last night.

The Home Secretary defended the policy of keeping out terrorists who pose a potential danger to the country.

But he admitted he may be powerless to exclude the 19-year-old from Bethnal Green after other countries refused to take her.

Mr Javid's officials have launched a bid to strip Begum of her passport to stop her returning to the UK.

The teenager wants to leave Syria with her newborn son after ISIS lost nearly all its territory.

The Home Secretary told ITV's Peston that returning jihadists can't always be prosecuted over what they've done in the Middle East because it's so hard to gather evidence.

He continued: "Then let's say they're in the UK and they radicalise others, they groom others, they carry out a terrorist attack themselves or incite others to do that.

"What about the danger and risk to the country of that?

"What about the impact on community cohesion if people come back to the country and use that to radicalise others? I have to weigh that up too.

"These are people who chose to leave the UK and join a terrorist organisation that hates the UK and everyone who lives in the UK."

Begum surfaced in a Syrian refugee camp a week ago, four years after she joined ISIS alongside other girls from East London.

Mr Javid responded by telling her family she would be stripped of her UK passport, on the grounds she is eligible to be a citizen of Bangladesh.

But the Bangladeshi authorities insist she isn't their responsibility - and the Netherlands, home country of her husband, also refuse to take her.

He told Peston: "I would not take a decision and I believe none of my predecessors ever have taken a decision that at the point the decision is taken would leave that individual stateless."

Begum has said she doesn't regret joining ISIS and suggested that atrocities such as the Manchester Arena bombing were justified.
