Diane Abbott says jihadist teen Shamima Begum SHOULD be allowed back into Britain

One of Corbyn's top team suggested it would be wrong to take away the 19-year-old's passport

JIHADIST teen Shamima Begum should be allowed to return to Britain despite joining ISIS, Labour suggested today.

One of the party's law bosses insisted the 19-year-old is "entitled to return to this country".

And Diane Abbott has spoken out against removing her British passport in order to keep her out of the UK.

Labour's intervention comes as ministers work out a way to keep Begum out amid fears she could present a serious threat.

Sajid Javid blasted in the Commons: "If you back terror, there must be consequences."

He is understood to be considering revoking her British citizenship on the grounds that she is eligible to be a citizen of Bangladesh.

But Nick Thomas-Symonds, the Shadow Solicitor General, suggested Begum should be allowed back in.

He said: "Can the Home Secretary confirm first that UK citizens are entitled to return to this country under international law, but should be held to account upon their return?

"Under international law, the Government cannot make people stateless."

He added that Brits who've fought for ISIS "should expect to face justice in legal process" if they return to Britain.

Shadow Home Secretary Ms Abbott said in a statement: “We are not in favour of making people stateless, that’s a punishment without due process.

"If there are reasonable grounds to suspect that anyone who is entitled to return to this country either committed or facilitated acts of terrorism, they should be fully investigated and where appropriate prosecuted."

Today Begum, who gave birth over the weekend, said the Manchester Arena bombing was justified "retaliation" for the bombing of ISIS bases.

She says she wants to return to Britain so her infant son can be cared for on the NHS.
