SHAMIMA Begum's family lawyer who claimed the jihadi bride has been treated 'worse than the Nazis' previously defended one of Lee Rigby's killers, saying he was 'created' by UK security services.

Tasnime Akunjee has sparked outrage by comparing the ISIS recruit with World War One soldiers and saying she'd been denied 'due process' given to Nazi war criminals.

It is not the first time the solicitor has aired controversial views around terror and Islamic extremism.

When Shamima fled to join Islamic State as a 15-year-old girl, Mr Akunjee led a campaign for the Metropolitan Police to apologise to her family for failing to tell them that a school friend had travelled to Syria.

He claimed it “disabled the families from intervention in [their] children’s plans”.

But the lawyer had previously stated that Muslims should not co-operate with the Government's Prevent counter-terror strategy, which he claimed was “straightforward, paid-for spying on the community”.

Mr Akunjee has previously held links to human rights group CAGE - once branded 'terror apologists' by then London Mayor Boris Johnson.

Writing on their website in 2015, he accused UK security services of 'creating' Lee Rigby killer Michael Adebolajo by 'making his life so difficult'.

He later : "MI5 spent a huge amount of resources trying to turn him and speak to him before he did what he did.

"It's Frankenstein - they created him by making his life so difficult."

CAGE had previously made similar claims about ISIS butcher Mohammed Emwazi, known as 'Jihadi John'.

Our politicians are saying that she should be denied protections and due process that would have been granted to Nazis

The West London-based lawyer has been speaking out once again after 19-year-old Shamima was tracked down to a Syrian refugee camp by The Times last week.

She has pleaded to be allowed to return to the UK after giving birth to a baby boy over the weekend.

Mr Akunjee said people should have sympathy for the jihadi runaway because she was "traumatised".

He has previously suggested Theresa May has "Nazi blood" for trying to root out extremists and urged Muslims not to co-operate with police.

Speaking to The Times, he said: "The Nazis had the Nuremberg trials. They were given due process. This girl was a victim when she went out there at 15 years old.

"Our politicians are saying that she should be denied protections and due process that would have been granted to Nazis."

Speaking today on Good Morning Britain, the lawyer compared the former Brit schoolgirl with World War One veterans suffering post-traumatic stress.

Responding to the presenter Richard Madeley's claims she didn't appear traumatised, Mr Akunjee said: "You might have said the same thing about First World War soldiers in the middle of shellshock."

Madeley, whose grandfather fought in the war, was left bemused by the comparison and asked the lawyer to take it back.

But Mr Akunjee sneered: "OK. That's your view. I'm sure you have a TV show because you think you're right all the time."

It came after Mr Akunjee, 41, issued a 2,700-word press release blaming her local council, the police and even her school for letting her go to Syria in the first place.

Giles Corey tweeted: "How dare he compare her to a WW1 veteran. These men fought for their country, not turn their back on it. Disgusting lawyer just after the cash!"

FLED TO JOIN ISIS IN 2015

Begum left London in February 2015 with two school friends to follow another classmate to Syria.

She said one friend, Kadiza Sultana, had died in an airstrike but the other Bethnal Green girls, Amira Abase and Sharmeena Begum, had stayed with ISIS in Baghuz.

She said she feared she will never see her husband, the Dutch jihadist Yago Riedijk again, whom she still loved “very much”.

Riedijk, 26, a convert to Islam who grew up in a middle-class family home in Arnhem, is suspected by police of being involved in a terrorist plot in the Netherlands. He was convicted in his absence last year of membership of a terrorist group.

Questions have been raised over whether Britain would be able to prevent Begum's eventual return to the UK.

Shamima's parents are consulting their lawyer about legal action against the government to force it to allow the teenager back into the country.

Home Secretary Sajid Javid has warned he "will not hesitate" to prevent the return of Britons who travelled to join ISIS.
