The central belt meanwhile will be pushed up to 13C.

A weather map shows hot air blowing 2,000 miles from Africa to the UK.

Britain meanwhile is set to have the hottest Valentine's Day since 1998, when 19.1C – the February 14 all-time record.

Ladbrokes cut odds on the hottest February 14 ever – beating the 19.1C record – to 2/1.

Brits are getting really hot under the collar this Valentine’s Day

Ladbrokes spokesman

Ladbrokes spokesman Alex Apati said: “Brits are getting really hot under the collar this Valentine’s Day.”

Scotland will be hotter than the 14C measured in Malibu Beach, California, and romantic cities including 13C Paris and 8C Venice.

Balmy highs and sunny spells are forecast to continue into next week as the 10-day warm spell continues.

Rain maps also suggest rain is unlikely to dampen anyone's romantic evening.

A Met Office forecaster said: “Valentine’s Day isn’t the only reason it’s warming up. Exceptionally high afternoon temperatures up to 16C could be seen in northern Scotland. Into next week will be mild for some.”

The Weather Outlook forecaster Brian Gaze said: “High pressure has the UK under a southerly flow of warm air pulled up from north Africa.

“17C could be seen by Friday, with a lot of dry and very mild spring-like weather into next week.”
