Donald Trump installs room-sized golf simulator in the White House so he can play 18 holes without going outside

The US President, 72, has been criticised recently for his use of so-called 'executive time' during his work hours

DONALD Trump has installed a $50,000 room-sized golf “simulator” at the White House – which allows him to play 18 holes without going outside.

The US President, 72, splashed out on the state-of–the-art gadget while replacing the “unsophisticated” games system which his predecessor Barack Obama had installed.

Golf fan Trump had the virtual simulator set up in his personal quarters in the last few weeks, two White House sources told the .

According to a government official, who did not want to named, the New York billionaire paid for the new system out of his own pocket.

Trump was criticised earlier this month for his use of so-called “executive time” which accounted for 60 per cent of his working hours, reported after examining three months of his schedule.

During these blocks of time, the 72-year-old watches television, tweets, makes phone calls and holds impromptu meetings, aides have claimed.

The brash Republican usually does not make his way to the Oval Office to officially start his work day until 11am, according to Axios.

In response to the report, Trump tweeted: “When the term Executive Time is used, I am generally working, not relaxing.”

Trump’s love of golf – he owns 16 courses in total, including two in Scotland where his mother was born – has been well documented since he took office.

According to the Washington Post, the firebrand US leader has played around 139 rounds of traditional outdoor golf since becoming US President.

That’s despite repeatedly blasting President Obama for playing the  game.

In October 2014, Trump tweeted: “Can you believe that, with all of the problems and difficulties facing the U.S., President Obama spent the day playing golf?”

But statistics show that The Donald has played around 70 rounds of golf per year compared to Obama’s annual average of 38.
