What exactly does Executive time mean? Donald Trump’s schedules revealed
The most powerful person in the world starts his working day later than most people
DONALD Trump’s daily routine has been revealed and the amount of time he actually spends officially working has raised eyebrows.
Here’s what you need to know about Executive Time and what the world’s most powerful person does with his day.
What exactly does Executive time mean?
So-called Executive Time is the unstructured time spent by the President in which he makes phone calls, reads newspaper, watches television or tweets.
According to details , 60 percent of Trump's work life is categorized as "executive time”.
The President maybe awake at 6am but his first meeting isn’t until 11am which is typically an intelligence meeting.
His day at the Oval Office ends at 6pm and during his day he usually has a meeting or two.
But he spends a large part of his day making phone calls and watching cable news in the dining room next door to the Oval Office.
At the end of his day he’s back to the residence for more phone calls and more TV.
Since the November elections he has spend 300 hours of executive time, compared to just 77 hours in official, scheduled meetings.
The leaking of his schedule led to the President hitting back on his medium of choice, Twitter.
"When the term Executive Time is used, I am generally working, not relaxing. In fact, I probably work more hours than almost any past President," Trump tweeted.
"The fact is, when I took over as President, our Country was a mess
"Depleted Military, Endless Wars, a potential War with North Korea, V.A., High Taxes & too many Regulations, Border, Immigration & HealthCare problems, & much more.
"I had no choice but to work very long hours!”
Acting chief of staff Mick Mulvaney stepped in to defend his boss.
"That executive time is on there to allow the president to prep for the next meeting, to debrief from the previous meeting," Mulvaney told NBC's 'Meet the Press'.
"The phone calls start at 6:30 in the morning, and they go until 11:00 at night. So I can assure you that the gentleman is working more than what's on that calendar.”
How does Trump's day compare to other Presidents?
By comparison George W. Bush would be at the Oval Office around 6.45am and would finish his working day at around 5.30pm.
Barack Obama was more of a night owl and would stay up until 2am reading but would still be at work from 9am to 6.30pm.
Trump’s approach is more in keeping to what Axios calls a more off the cuff and less structured way ran the Trump Organization.
It resembles the style of Bill Clinton, who was chronically late and prone to deviating from his schedule.
