BLINDED BY STRIPPER

Gran blinded when male stripper whipped off his trousers and ‘hit her in EYE’

Merle Groenewald, 58, told a court she suffered devastating injuries as a sexy fireman tore off his uniform and is suing Dreamboys troupe for £150,000

A STRIP fan claims she was blinded when a Dreamboys hunk ripped off his trousers and they hit her in the eyes.

Gran Merle Groenewald was in the front row “with her knees touching the stage” on a girly night out.

Merle, 58 — who is suing the male troupe for £150,000 — told a court she suffered devastating injuries as one of four sexy firemen tore off his uniform.

She was rushed to hospital with serious injuries which left her permanently blind in her left eye and temporarily blind in her right, the court heard.

She is now suing Dreamboys London Ltd claiming they “failed to ensure that there was sufficient space between the performers and the audience, so as to ensure that the performance could be carried out safely.”

The Dreamboys deny the hotel worker was injured by one of their strippers.

NOT 'REASONABLY FORESEEABLE'

Merle, of South Africa, was staying in Maidstone, Kent, when she went with three pals to the strip show at the Rise club in London’s Leicester Square in December 2014.

Barrister Mark Mulrooney said: “One of the performers flicked his trousers towards the audience, but part of the trousers caught Mrs Groenewald in the eyes and caused her to suffer injury.

“She suffered a severe blunt injury to her left eye which caused her to require surgery.

"She has lost useful vision in her left eye and suffered a temporary injury to her right eye.”

Dreamboys argued an accident involving being injured by a stripper's trousers was not “reasonably foreseeable”.

The case is set for a three-day trial on a date to be fixed.

Churchgoer Merle, married to retired cop Johann, told The Sun at her home in Cape Town: “It’s in God’s hands now."
