George Osborne buys £3m luxury ski chalet in exclusive Swiss Alps resort
The former Chancellor of the Exchequer's new three-storey house is in Verbier, Switzerland
GEORGE Osborne has bought a luxury £3million chalet in the Swiss Alps.
The former Chancellor of the Exchequer snapped up the three-storey house in the highly sought after ski resort of Verbier in Switzerland.
Osborne was criticised in 2011 for going on a skiing holiday as he was raising VAT to 20 per cent.
Now he'll be free to hit the slopes whenever he likes, as his new chalet is near the main lift station at the resort.
It's also not far from Sir Richard Branson's lodge, or the Big Ben pub.
Verbier has been a favourite getaway for the rich and famous for years, counting Barack Obama, Madonna and Leonardo DiCaprio among its previous guests.
It's also attracted royal visitors to its pistes, with the Duke of York buying his ex-wife a £13million chalet there in 2015.
And Prince William was snapped enjoying a holiday at the resort in 2017.
Verbier offers stunning views of the Mont-Fort glacier and is the main resort in the high-end Four Valleys ski area.
Word of Osborne's purchase has quickly spread through the town as hot gossip, reports.
One estate agent said: "We've had people coming into the shop saying, 'Have you heard about George!'"

Osborne's flash new chalet boasts a large drinks terrace with spectacular views, as well as a high degree of privacy due to its discrete location.
Since leaving office, Osborne has taken on nine jobs and reportedly earns around £1million a year working with Blackrock, the world's largest fund manager, as well as becoming the editor of the Evening Standard.
Because his new chalet is 192.5 square metres, it is just under Switzerland's strict 200sq metre limit that foreigners are allowed to buy in the country.
