Prosecutors have claimed that Orsoni may have targeted his neighbours in the deadly shooting following a bitter five-year row over a dog.

The gunman was no stranger to Corsica's courts, having two previous convictions for armed offences.

Bastia's prosecutor Caroline Tharot told Ouest France that Orsoni’s dog may have bitten one of his neighbours friends.

"A dispute allegedly pitted the defendant, Joseph Orsoni, against one of his neighbours, a dispute that dates back five or six years to a dog.

“It looks like Orsoni's dog has bitten this neighbour's friend."
