BLOOD LUST

How Rose West drove serial killer husband Fred to rape and murder girls and was ‘deeply involved’ in the bloodshed

A new documentary reveals the serial killer's wife was actively involved in the killings

ROSE West encouraged her serial killer husband Fred West to rape and murder more girls, a new documentary reveals.

The twisted wife is said to have been "actively involved" in the murder of at least 12 young women and was just as violent as her husband.

In prison for life, the 65-year-old still denies her role in the murders, but new evidence could further prove her culpability and deep involvement.

Rose was convicted of 10 murders 23 years ago and husband Fred confessed to 12 killings before killing himself while on remand a year later.

Nine of the couple's victims were buried at their home, in the cellar and under the patio.

Rose was only 15 when she met Fred, who had already committed murder by this time at the age of 27.

DEEP INVOLVEMENT IN THE RAPES AND MURDERS

A documentary by former broadcaster Sir Trevor McDonald will reveal the extent of her involvement.

Sir Trevor, 79, said: "Rose West was not a bystander.

"She was deeply involved. In any normal situation you would think that a wife's influence would curb Fred's horrific tendencies but we learn that she was actively involved.

"When they cruised around to pick up people, she was the one who probably convinced the girls to get in the car."

He visited the "eerie" Cromwell Street home of the Wests, dubbed the "House of Horrors" and spoke to former lodgers who said they heard screams coming from the cellar.

The documentary will also feature new interviews with Rose and Fred's son Barry, who will detail the murder of his sister Heather among other horrific details.

Barry was taken into care in 1992 when a sexual abuse case was opened against his parents, along with his siblings Tara, Louise, Rosemary Junior and Lucyanna.

Also featured in the film is the first television interview with the sisters of one of the West's victims, Juanita Mott who went missing in 1975 aged 18.

Her remains were found at the Cromwell Street house.

Fred and Rose West: The Real Story with Trevor McDonald will broadcast on ITV on Thursday, January 31 at 9pm.
