If Remainer wrecking crews defeat Theresa May’s tweaked Brexit deal, Britain is in dangerous waters
The plots to sabotage our biggest ever democratic mandate have already inflamed deep divisions and the PM is right to point out the risks of what could be to come if they succeed
THE rank hypocrisy of the multiple Remainer wrecking crews is revolting.
How they all clutched their pearls as Theresa May said a Labour-backed second Brexit referendum could trigger unrest.
It was fine for David Cameron to hint at World War Three if we voted Leave. But his successor cannot air a far more likely outcome without Remoaner toys being thrown out of the pram.
It is not ENDORSING trouble to point out the risk. The truth hurts, though, doesn’t it? The plots to sabotage our biggest ever democratic mandate have already inflamed deep divisions.
Now Roland Rudd, the mega-rich “people’s vote” leader, phones in from a billionaires’ conference in Switzerland to advertise his plan to cheat 17.4million mainly working-class people of their Brexit victory. How do he and his cult-like team think that will go down?
The other Remainer gang aren’t much better. Yvette Cooper’s plan to delay Article 50 and “avoid No Deal” would destroy our negotiating leverage. Its true purpose is to buy time to kill Brexit.
Mrs May is still set on the one sensible course: to persuade the EU to tweak the deal and try for a Commons majority.
If Remainers defeat it we are in dangerous waters, as the PM has a duty to point out.
Hire a hardman
ALL along, our negotiations have been let down by defeatism and naivety.
Theresa May’s Remainer envoy Olly Robbins was outsmarted at every turn.
Even now, as the PM suggests returning to Brussels to amend the backstop, Robbins texts another Eeyore — Philip Hammond — to say it isn’t worth it.
Which is why replacing him immediately with hard-bitten Kiwi trade negotiator Crawford Falconer makes sense.
Put a pro in charge.
Border bungle
NOW Brussels admits it WILL build a hard border in Ireland if the deal is defeated.
Marvel at their folly, and Irish PM Leo Varadkar’s. Their solution to avoid the border was so tough on Britain that they could end up with one much faster.
The answer is obvious. Time-limit the backstop to win over the Commons.
Then focus every effort on technology to solve the problem before that deadline.

Britain booms
CHAOS aside, our economy surges ahead.
More in work than ever. The lowest unemployment in 44 years. Pay up 3.4 per cent, inflation at just 2.1 per cent.
It makes mugs of those who forecast immediate meltdown if we voted Leave. Even the OECD chief once petrified of No Deal has U-turned. “The whole world runs by WTO rules these days,” he says.
Cracks are also appearing in Brussels’ armour. What a moment to lose our nerve.
