BARGAIN VIEWS

Dozens of Sicilian homes with incredible views of the Med put on sale for just 90 PENCE

The homes in Sambuca, is a hilltop town which has stunning views over the Mediterranean, are going for bargain basement prices

HOMES are on sale in the Italian island of Sicily for the same price as a bag of crisps.

Leaders in the town of Sambuca are selling the properties for just 90p in a bid to revive the community which has seen many people move out to live in cities.

Using incentives has been done before.

In 2018 the Italian mountain community of Bormid was offering £1,700 cash-in-hand and ultra-low monthly rent of £40 to lure people to move there.

But Sambuca's deputy mayor Giuseppe Cacioppo told : "As opposed to other towns that have merely done this for propaganda, this city hall owns all €1 (90p) houses on sale.

"We're not intermediaries who liaise between old and new owners.

“You want that house, you'll get it no time."

BUT THERE'S A CATCH

New residents will have to spend at least £13,000 renovating the homes which are 130 to 500 square feet.

Then there is a £4,400 security deposit which is given back once the work has been done.

Yet the town leaders believe those accepting the deal will not be disappointed.

He said: "Sambuca is known as the City of Splendour. Gorgeous beaches, woods and mountains surround us.

"It's silent and peaceful, an idyllic retreat for a detox stay."
