Dr Punam Krishan took to twitter to praise her team following the incident - and her message describing exactly what happened has quickly gone viral
A GP has publicly praised the actions of the receptionist at her surgery for taking on a patient who did not want to see an "Asian doctor".
Dr Punam Krishan took to twitter to talk of her pride following the incident - and her message describing exactly what happened has quickly gone viral.
The Glasgow GP posted how the receptionist had explained to the patient that she was Scottish, only to be told: "She doesn't look Scottish."
The receptionist promptly replied: "What do Scottish people look like?"
Dr Krishan said that silenced the patient, who then quietly took their appointment card without further debate.
She told it wasn't the first time she had encountered similar attitudes.
"I am aware that it happens across the board but we rarely talk about it," she said. "There is no reason or place for it."
I have had a very positive response which is so uplifting,

Her tweet was also praised by NHS Million, a grassroots campaign to celebrate the work of the NHS.
It tweeted: "NHS staff deserve respect at all times regardless of whether they are Scottish, Asian, or anything else.
"Please RT if you agree and let's show racist people that their utter nonsense will not be tolerated."
