Goat meat set to become the food trend of 2019 amid new clamour for ‘ethical meat’
Campaigners have warned around 100,000 male goats are euthanized and going to waste each year because they cannot be used for dairy products
GOAT meat is poised to become the latest eating fad.
BBC’s Good Food magazine has listed it among its top trend predictions for this year amid the clamour for “ethical meat”.
Also on the list are wonky fruit and veg, meat-free food like Gregg’s vegan sausage roll and recyclable packaging.
Supermarkets are testing recipes for goat sausages, meatballs and ready meals.
Campaigners say around 100,000 young male goats are killed each year.
This is because they cannot be used to produce dairy products, which are already popular, and farmers say there is not enough demand for their meat.
James Whetlor, founder at goat meat firm Cabrito, said: “These products are in the final stages of development.
“Finally people are realising it is right that goat meat should be eaten, as these animals are being euthanized and going to waste.”
