Kidnapped Jayme Closs, 13, watched mum’s head being blown off and was forced to strip as she reveals full horror of three-month abduction
The teen was cowering in a bathtub with mum Denise when Jake Patterson allegedly killed her dad with a shotgun before blasting her mum
KIDNAPPED Jayme Cross watched her mum being blasted with a shotgun as they cowered in a bath before being held captive in a squalid basement for 88 days.
The 13-year-old also heard her dad being shot dead after Jake Patterson, 21, allegedly decided to snatch her at random when he saw her getting on a school bus.
The full horrific details of Jayme's ordeal were laid bare in court last night after Patterson was charged with murdering her parents James and Denise Closs, as well as kidnapping her.
Denise had been forced to tape Jayme's mouth shut before being blasted in the head on October 15 near Barron, Wisconsin - about 90 miles northeast of Minneapolis.
The teen was then bundled into a car boot and kept in a squalid basement for 88 days before she managed to break free and run to a neighbouring property on Thursday.
'KIDNAPPER'S' FIRST COURT APPEARANCE
Patterson appeared via video link in court last night where prosecutors alleged he picked Jayme to kidnap at random when he spotted her getting on a school bus.
Court papers say he told detectives that "he knew that was the girl he was going to take".
Prosecutors charged him with kidnapping Jayme and killing her parents on October 15 near Barron, Wisconsin - about 90 miles northeast of Minneapolis.
He was also charged with armed robbery.
The judge set bail at $5 million (£3.9m).
JAYME'S ORDEAL
Patterson allegedly went to the home twice intending to kidnap Jayme - but broke off one attempt because too many cars were in the driveway.
He called off another because the house was too active, the complaint said.
On the night she was abducted, Jayme woke her parents when the family dog started barking at a car pulling up the drive.
As she cowered in the bath behind a shower curtain with mum Denise, dad James went to the front door when Jayme heard a gunshot and knew he was dead, the papers say.
Denise started to call 911 but Patterson broke down the door dressed in black wearing a face mask and gloves and carrying a shotgun.
Patterson told her mother to hang up and ordered her to tape Jayme's mouth shut.
He then wrapped tape around Jayme's hands and wrists, dragged her out of the bath and shot her mum in the head, authorities say.
Patterson dragged Jayme outside, nearly slipping in blood pooled on the floor.
Jayme was then thrown in the trunk of his car and drove off - as police squad cars rushed to the family home.
TRAPPED IN HELL CABIN
Patterson took her to a cabin that he said was his, ordered her into a bedroom and told her to take off her clothes and get dressed in his sister's pajamas.
He then threw her clothes into a fireplace in the cabin's basement, the file adds.
Jayme was then forced to spend hours trapped under a bed when he went out or had friends over to the cabin - and was warned that "bad things could happen to her" otherwise.
Patterson, who has no criminal history in Wisconsin, was described by people who knew him as a quiet and good student who participated in quiz bowl in high school.
His defense attorneys, Charles Glynn and Richard Jones, said they believe Patterson can get a fair trial - but they are not sure where.
Jones said: "It's been an emotional time for this community and a difficult time for this community.
"We don't take that lightly. But we have a job to do in protecting our client."
'KILLER'S' LAIR
Chilling pictures released yesterday show the inside of Patterson's forest cabin in rural Gordon, Wisconsin.
The creepy lair was strewn with soft toys, filthy bedding and women’s clothes.
A stash of kids’ backpacks, including one with panda ears, can be seen piled up in one corner of the 8ft by 8ft room.
The surrounding 2.5 acre lot is littered with old cars, rusty bikes and an assortment of junk, while a sign saying ‘Patterson's Retreat’ greets visitors as they approach the ramshackle home.
A mound of rubbish strewn beside a garage includes an empty box of 80 adult Member's Mark nappies.
The cabin was filled with an assortment of tatty old furniture, from rocking chairs to fans and years-old televisions and stereos – with dirty plates piled up in the kitchen.
MIRACLE FIND
Dishevelled Jayme was found on Thursday wondering the streets near the town of Gordon - an hour north of Barron - by a woman walking her dog.
