Who will be godparents to Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s son Archie?
PRINCE Harry and Meghan Markle welcomed their first child into the world on May 6, 2019 - a boy named Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.
But the question now on everyone's lips is who is expected to be the royal baby’s godparents? Here is the latest odds on who we're expecting to take the role.
Who will be godparents to Meghan Markle's royal baby?
Jessica Mulroney is widely regarded as Meghan’s BFF, so therefore a good bet for godmother to the royal baby.
She even flew Down Under to join Meghan and Harry on their tour of Australia and New Zealand.
The 38-year-old Canadian stylist's three kids were page boys and a flower girl at the Royal Wedding on May 19, 2018.
And the Duchess of Sussex reportedly made her the first to know her pregnancy news, spilling the beans on a trip to Toronto in August 2018, according to US Weekly.
Also in the running is rumoured royal matchmaker and American designer Misha Nonoo.
The 31-year-old was born in Bahrain, raised in London and educated in Paris - but currently lives in the US, which is where she and Meg are thought to have met.
Her auction house boss ex-husband Alexander Gilkes, 39, is one of Harry's best mates and Eton school pals - and could also be a contender for godfather.
The couple were guests at Kate Middleton and Wills' wedding, while Eugenie, Beatrice and James Middleton all attended their Venice ceremony in 2012.
Other possible godparents from Meghan’s pals are TV producer and author Lindsay Jill Roth and entertainment lawyer Benita Litt.
Tennis star Serena Williams has also been tipped as a godparent to the new baby.
Her and Meghan have been friends since meeting at a Super Bowl party in 2010 and the Duchess has cheered her pal on at Wimbledon every year since.
When it comes to Harry’s pals, among the favourites is Jake Warren, the son of the Queen's racing manager John Warren.
Him and Harry have been lifelong friends and both went to Ludgrove Prep School and Eton College together.
Jake is married to Zoe Warren - and their daughter Zalie, who is Harry's goddaughter, was also a flower girl at the Royal wedding.
Tom "Skippy" Inskip has been Harry's partner in crime since his Eton school days, and is known for his wild partying past.
He was by Harry's side for several scandals in his younger years, including the Las Vegas pool debacle.
While Charlie Van Straubenzee, a pal from Harry's Primary School days, is reported to have been named as a godfather by The Sunday Times.
Charlie was an usher at Harry's wedding and the prince was the best man at his.
George and Amal Clooney have also emerged as possible godparents.
Human-rights lawyer Amal and her Hollywood star husband were guests at Harry and Meghan's wedding.
But royal protocol dictates Prince William will definitely not be godfather to the new baby.
Harry isn't godfather to little George, five, Charlotte, four, or Louis, one.
What are the odds on who's going to become the royal baby's godparents?
- Jessica Mulroney 1/2
- Bentia Litt 5/4
- Prince William 2/1
- Nicolas van Custem 2/1
- Abigail Spencer 3/1
- Tom Inskip 4/1
- Princess Eugenie 5/1
- Mark Dyer 6/1
- Amal Clooney 7/1
- Serena Williams 8/1
- Micha Nonoo 10/1
- Oprah Winfrey 12/1
- Tiggy Pettifer 14/1
- Markus Anderson 16/1
- Barack Obama 33/1
Jessica Mulroney is odds-on at 1-2 with bookmaker Coral to be a godparent to the royal baby who was born on May 6, 2019.
Benita Litt is 5-4 in the betting for the role, Prince William is 2-1, while Amal Clooney can be backed at 7-1.
“Meghan’s BFF Jessica Mulroney is surely going to be high on the list when it comes to consideration to be one of the godparents to the new baby boy therefore she is the odds-on favourite in our betting,” said Coral’s John Hill.
“Benita Litt and Prince William are understandably at the top end of the betting, while we are seeing a lot of money for Amal Clooney who is also thought to be close to the couple,” added Hill.
When is the royal baby's christening?
The royals usually have the christening up to three months after the baby is born.
However, Meghan and Harry are known for doing things differently - choosing to hold Archie's christening in private and when he was two months old.
The royal couple are determined to keep their son a “private citizen”, with sources confirming beforehand that they were planning a media-free baptism.
Archie Harrison was christened at the Queen's private chapel inside Windsor Castle away from the press and public.
The royal was doused from the lily font with water from the River Jordan, worth £11,000.
Used in the majority of royal Christenings over the past 150 years, the lavish Lily Font could rack up millions if it was ever put up for auction, according to experts.
Weighing over 21 lbs, the Lily Font is gilded in silver and decorated with lilies, ivy and cherubs.
The spectacular piece was first designed for royal Christenings by Queen Victoria's husband Prince Albert and has been in the Royal Family since 1840.
When was the royal baby introduced to the world?
Meghan and Harry introduced their "amazing" baby boy to the world on May 8, 2019.
Later, after he met great-gran the Queen, his name was announced as Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.
The new parents appeared tired but ecstatic as they cradled the newborn, with giddy bearded dad Harry joking his son "already has facial hair".
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex's low key announcement at Windsor Castle is in stark contrast to Kate Middleton and Prince William's baby reveals that saw hundreds of photographers snap pictures of their three children hours after they were born.
Meghan and Harry swaddled Archie in a white blanket and hat as they spoke about their little boy who was born on May 6,2019.
The release of the official birth certificate revealed that the young royal was born at Portland Hospital in London.
New mum Meghan, 37, stunned in a white dress that bared her arms as she stood by grinning new dad Prince Harry, 34, who cradled their little boy.
She gushed over life after welcoming her little boy, saying: "It's magic.
"It's pretty amazing. I have the best two guys in the world, so I'm really happy."
And she said the baby boy, who was just two days old at the time, already had the "sweetest temperament" - adding "he's the dream".
