Meghan Markle ‘set to become patron of National Theatre’ in blessing of confidence from the Queen
Palace sources say the appointment is expected to be announced in days
THE Duchess of Sussex has landed her dream role as the patron of the National Theatre.
In a vote of confidence from the Queen, Meghan is expected to be given the job within days.
She is seen as a “natural fit” for the position with her experience in acting.
The Duchess is said to have discussed the role when she met with Rufus Norris, the director of the National Theatre.
Meghan, who also studied theatre at university, will get involved with The American Associates of the National Theatre, which contributes £3million a year to its output.
The appointment as patron is made by Her Majesty and will be seen as a huge boost for Meghan after rumours of a tricky start to life as a royal.
She is a theatre lover and last year went with Prince Harry to a benefit performance of hit musical Hamilton.
The National Theatre opened in 1963 with Sir Laurence Olivier its artistic director.
It moved to its home on the South Bank in London in 1976.
