London’s skyline to be transformed by 2026 with new skyscrapers Can of Ham, The Scalpel and Undershaft

The tallest new development - 1 Undershaft - will rival The Shard at 305 metres high

MANY of London's most iconic skyscrapers are packed into the city's congested Square Mile, but a bundle of impressive new megastructures will transform the area yet again within the next decade.

Jaw-dropping mocked-up pictures show how different the area could look by 2026, owing to the construction of the Scalpel (206 metres), Can of Ham (164 metres), and 1 Undershaft (305 metres).

The tallest of the three is set to rival The Shard, which is 310 metres high at its tip, for the title of London's largest scraper.

In 2006, only the Gherkin and NatWest Tower dominated the area, but the regular construction of new skyscrapers has constantly changed the City of London's appearance.

Now the so-called Heron Tower, Walkie Talkie and Cheesegrater all tower over the buildings below.

Pictures of the the City Cluster set seven years from now in the eastern corner of the Square Mile were released by the City of London Corporation.

The Corporation continue to reshape life in the bustling pocket of the Capital policies including a large "zero emission zone" and 15pmh speed limit.

Chris Hayward, chairman of the Corporation's planning and transportation committee, said: "These images remind us that the City's skyscrapers are some of the most recognisable structures in the UK.

"But great cities are not made from great buildings alone.

"The ambitious policy proposals outlined in the transport strategy and local plan aim to resolve challenges at street level, and in the river, air and open spaces."
