Greggs customer’s ‘how to eat vegan sausage roll’ viral video slammed as ‘shameless’ as he throws snack in bin

A CLUB promoter has come under fire online after he posted a video of himself throwing a Gregg’s vegan sausage roll into the BIN just moments after buying it.

Joe Deverdics posted the video to his Twitter account with the caption: “How to eat a vegan sausage roll from Greggs…”

The footage shows the events manager grabbing the just-purchased treat at a Greggs counter after paying for it.

He continues to walk out of the shop in Newcastle to a bin where he throws the hot pastry in without even taking a bite.

The video has gone viral on social media with some people saying that the pastry could have been used to feed homeless people in the area.

Edward Gregory said: “Homeless person would have been grateful for that, shameful behaviour really.”

Another person said: “If you can afford to buy food and you don’t want it, then give it away to someone who’s hungry rather than making a cheap arrogant public gesture.”

Singhwhenyourwinning said: “I don’t care about the type of food item…”

He continued: “I don’t waste any food. The fact that someone buys something and throws it in the bin when probably yards away someone may be hungry.”

While some Twitter-users were disgusted with Joe’s actions, others pointed out that Gregg’s still made money from of the sale.

Ash wrote: “Greggs will count that as 1 sold and so you’ve contributed to the success of vegan foods - and Greggs and others are more likely to sell even more now.”

Firesnakious said: “You sure showed them by giving them money.”

The tweet has been viewed more than 760,000 times, had 2,376 retweets and 8,956 likes.

Greggs’ controversial pastry has sparked a fierce debate online since its release on January 3.

Good Morning Britain presenter Piers Morgan began trending on Twitter after he reposted Greggs’ post about their vegan sausage roll with the caption: “Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns.”

Greggs replied under his post with the comment: “Oh hello Piers, we’ve been expecting you”, which gained over 186,000 likes.

Back in 2016 Joe was dubbed a hero after jumping into the River Tyne to save a man from drowning.

The video of the heroic act was recorded by a tourist who was passing by.

In September 2016, Newcastle was named as the Greggs capital of Britain for having 29 stores.

Now the northern city has 31 branches of the popular baked goods chain.

The Sun Online has contacted Greggs for comment.
