Who won the EuroMillions on New Year’s Day 2019?

Just one lucky ticket matched all the numbers to scoop the £114.9million New Year's Day EuroMillions jackpot.

Frances and Patrick Connolly, from County Armagh in Northern Ireland, celebrated the (extremely) lucky dip win with a cup of tea, after first thinking it was a scam.

Their exact prize pot was £114,969,755.70 making the couple the fourth-largest lottery winners in the country.

The generous pair - a retired teacher and businessman - said one of the first things they did was sit down and write a list of 50 people they want to share the money with.

Aside from helping out friends and family Patrick plans to splash out and swap his current Laguna for an Alfa Romeo, and buy a house.

He also wants to retire from his work in manufacturing, shower his wife with gifts, buy a Jaguar and take a trip to the Maldives.

They have three grandchildren, two boys and a girl, a 30-year-old daughter and twins aged 24.

What were the EuroMillions winning numbers on January 1, 2019?

The numbers from the EuroMillions draw were 01, 08, 11, 25 and 28.

The Lucky Stars were 04 and 06.

What other EuroMillions news have we recently had?

Just a few weeks ago, a British man who had been sitting on a winning ticket for six weeks scooped up a whopping £76million EuroMillions jackpot.

Andrew Clark from Lincolnshire had a pile of unchecked tickets in his van.

The 51-year-old builder's family had urged him to check them after hearing about the unclaimed prize on the news.

Recalling the evening he found the ticket, he said: "I finally gave in, got the bundle out of the van and started to work my way through them, methodically from the oldest to the most recent, starting with Lotto, before moving on to my EuroMillions tickets.

"You might say I was slightly winding up Louise but I certainly didn't expect the wind up to end with me saying 'I've done it, I've won £76m' - I won't say what she said in response!"

Who else has won big in the EuroMillions?

The biggest win for 2018 was £121million which was handed to an anonymous winner in April.

In July 2011, Colin and Chris Weir became the biggest lottery winners in both the UK and Europe after scooping more than £161m.

And the now infamous Adrian and Gillian Bayford from Suffolk took home more than £148m in August 2012.
