Tesco Harry Potter PJs with ‘not for sleepwear’ warning labels leave customers baffled
The £14 pyjamas that feature Harry Potter’s snowy owl Hedwig are on sale at Tesco branches all over the UK
TESCO is selling Harry Potter pyjamas that come with a warning — not to wear them in bed.
The label of the £14 children’s night-time outfit clearly states: “Not to be used as sleepwear.”
Customers at the supermarket giant’s store in Kingston Park, Newcastle, were yesterday left baffled by the advice.
The jim-jams feature Harry Potter’s snowy owl Hedwig on the front, carrying an envelope addressed to the boy wizard above the words: “Waiting for my letter.”
Norma Smeaton, 56, said: “What’s the point of selling pyjamas if you can’t wear them in bed? It’s weird.”
Her daughter Debbie, 35, a school business manager, added: “I’ve never heard anything like it before. It’s very strange.”
Charity worker Debbie Clelland, 46, said: “It’s stupid. What would happen if you fell asleep by accident? You can sleep in anything. You can sleep in normal clothes. Why can’t you sleep in these? It’s bizarre.”
The pyjamas are on sale at Tesco branches all over the UK. University lecturer Smita Odedra, 28, spotted a pair near Glasgow.
She said: “Why would you buy pyjamas you can’t sleep in? They are in the pyjamas section and the code is for PJs, so they are for sleeping in, you would think.
“But the label says they are, ‘Not to be used as sleepwear’. What would happen if someone did wear them to bed?
“Would they spontaneously combust? Or perhaps be whisked off to Hogwarts?”
