VETERAN broadcaster David Dimbleby has urged the BBC to slash the number of highly-paid executives.
Dimbleby, who recently stepped down as Question Time host after 25 years, said that while the BBC was “brilliant” it was overstaffed with managers.
He told Radio 4’s Today programme yesterday: “It has far too many management people in it.
“I think the business of cutting back the bureaucracy is really important.”
His comments came after it was revealed the BBC gave pay rises of up to 30 per cent to bosses.
At the same time Corporation chiefs are weighing up whether to end giving free TV licences to over 75s to save money.

Dimbleby, 80, also revealed he had applied for the roles of BBC director-general and chairman in the past.
The BBC says it has halved the number of senior managers since 2009-2010, saving £38million.
