Princess Eugenie reveals her anger at major spinal surgery aged 12 which left her ‘reeling’ when she was unable to move
Speaking for the first time about the impact of her corrective spinal operation, Princess Eugenie says learning she had to have the surgery was difficult to come to terms with
PRINCESS Eugenie has spoken of her anger at having major spinal surgery as a child.
She had a corrective operation for scoliosis curvature of the spine at the age of 12.
Eugenie said it took her a long time to come to terms with being different and it “was a bombshell that left me reeling”.
She said after the surgery she was unable to move and was forced to wear a neck brace as she healed.
The princess told The Daily Telegraph: “That was very frustrating and I remember being angry about not being able to run around and play.”
But Eugenie, 28, said over the years she came to terms with the trauma.
She is now a patron of the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital.
She added: “I believe scars are like memories that tell a story on your body, that remind you how strong you had to be, and that you survived to talk about it.”
Eugenie said she was now proud that she could be an example to people going through the same thing.
