Jaw-dropping footage captures the surfing megastar making a miraculous save after being engulfed by a wave during the Pipe Masters in Hawaii

THIS is the moment a surfing champion proves his get up and go when he somehow gets back on his board after falling off — only to continue to ride the wave.

Eleven-times former world champion Kelly Slater made his miraculous recovery to avoid a wipeout during a surf competition in Hawaii.

Slater is thrown off his board by the sheer force of the huge wave

The surfer fell inside what is known as a wave barrel while competing at the season-ending Pipeline Masters event in Oahu.

But defying all odds, Slater managed to roll back on to his board before popping up into a standing position.

Much to the amazement of everyone watching on shore he continued to ride the wave.

Yet the 46-year-old American seemed just as astounded.

Having pulled it off he could be seeing raising his arms to accept the cheers of the crowd.

But remarkably he manages to get back on

The ‘undisputed king of surfing’ then gets into the standing position

He looks as bemused as anyone else by what he has pulled off

In an Instagram post later, Slater said: “Well, that was interesting.

“I thought I just fell straight onto my belly and bodyboarded out. Didn’t realize I had to grab for it! Haha.”

Fans reacted in sheer joy to the startlingly skillful recovery, with one tweeting the legendary surfer was “ absolute magician” while another asked: “Do you even need a board to surf anymore?”
