A COP is suing his force for sex discrimination after claiming colleagues ignored the domestic abuse he suffered at the hands of his girlfriend.

Det Con Gareth Yates reported her to Cheshire Police during a three-year campaign of terror.

But he claims they failed to deal with the allegations properly because of his gender.

A tribunal in Liverpool was told that the force did not record the alleged offences. But Det Con Yates said that if the complaint had been made by a woman then the crimes would have been dealt with.

He reported several alleged offences by his ex between July 2013 and September 2016, including assault, theft, stalking and a series of malicious communications.

The sex discrimination claim will be heard in full at a later hearing.
