Google Maps users stunned after spotting swastikas marking worldwide locations including the Savoy in London
The symbol of the Nazi party has been clocked on hotels in the UK, US and Ireland
GOOGLE Maps users were left baffled after finding SWASTIKA icons being used to mark locations all over the world - including the five-star Savoy Hotel in London.
The shocking symbol used by Adolf Hitler's Nazi Party has also reportedly turned up on points of interest in Edinburgh, Dublin and Las Vegas.
Appalled social media users have shared screenshots of the disturbing digital blunder in bizarre posts online.
Andy Ingram wrote: "Excuse me Google but why are your maps showing London hotels with swastikas on the pins?"
He included pictures of the disturbing symbol appearing on pins for several hotels in the English capital.
And another miffed Maps user from Dublin tweeted: "Google Maps, can you tell me why the hotels in Dublin have swastika signs on them?"
The swastika is based on an ancient symbol of good luck and spirituality used for thousands of years in Indian religions and East Asian cultures.
But it became affiliated with fascism, antisemitism and racism when Hitler appropriated the symbol to associate it with the Aryan race.
Google says that the reason the symbol is on its Maps service is that the image is not a swastika, but rather a "Buddhist symbol of worship."
A spokesman said: "We're aware that these religious symbols are incorrectly displaying for certain hotels in Dublin and are working on a fix to restore the correct hotel icon to these places."
